Radio-Canada reports from Abeilles Busy Bees

During the economic crisis of 2008, the manufacturing sector experienced a marked slowdown in activity. In Montréal, the number of manufacturing businesses declined by 38%. Going from 5,941 firms in 2000 to 3,664 in 2012 (La Presse, May 21, 2014).

At the height of the crisis, Abeilles Busy Bees lost nearly half of its sales volume. Its main client, the company Mabe, left Abeilles Busy Bees behind when it relocated the assembly lines for its products to Mexico.

Still, according to reports from May 2015, Québec is now in a better economic position than the rest of Canada.

In fact, Éric Tétrault, president of the trade group Manufacturiers et exportateurs du Québec, says the key for recovery for manufacturing companies is “to invest more in qualified labour and invest more in innovation and productivity.”

Serge Caouette and Patrick Paradis, stakeholders in Abeilles Busy Bees, made the decision to act according to this mentality, when the first signs of economic downturn began to hit. According to them, “we must reinvent, reinvest, make acquistions of new equipment, review our methods, and perfect our management systems.” This sense of audacity and perseverance has led them to invest nearly $1,000,000 over the past year in the training of staff, the integration of a cutting edge management system, and the acquisition of new equipment. The company has maintained its leading position in the packaging and assembly sector in the greater Montréal region. “Despite the loss of 50% of our sales with the departure of Mabe, we have since made up this 50% and added 16% new growth,” adds Serge Caouette.

At Abeilles Busy Bees, company decisions are made with a focus on client needs. This is why we are always on the lookout for new trends in packaging and in optimization of production lines, in order to offer you the best possible service!
